SBOE Member Dr. Marsha Farney Announces Her Candidacy for House District 20
Farney also announces initial members of campaign steering committee
GEORGETOWN - State Board of Education Member Dr. Marsha Farney announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for State Representative, District 20. Incumbent Dr. Charles Schwertner, who announced his candidacy for the State Senate District 5 to succeed the retiring Senate Finance Chairman, Senator Steve Ogden, is vacating House District 20.
"It has been a pleasure to serve approximately 1.8 million people and over 70 school districts in State Board of Education (SBOE) District 10. I have been a proactive advocate for improving our public schools and want to utilize my education experience and conservative values to be an advocate on the broader issues facing the people of District 20," Farney stated.
SBOE District 10 encompasses all of Williamson and Milam Counties, which are both in House District 20, along with all of Burnet County. The Williamson County portion of House District 20, Dr. Farney’s home, cast approximately 63% of the vote in the 2010 Republican Primary in House District 20.
"I have enjoyed working with Senator Ogden and Representative Schwertner this past year and I would like to continue that service now in the Texas House."

A Proven Republican Winner
- Dr. Farney was elected to the State Board of Education District 10 in November 2010 receiving 55.85% of the vote.
- In April 2010, Farney won the Republican Nomination for SBOE 10 with 61.78% of the vote.
- Dr. Farney received 73.72% of the vote in Milam County in the Republican run-off.
- In Williamson County, Farney won 75.57% of the vote in precincts that are now contained in the new House District 20 in the run-off.
- In Sun City, Farney received an astounding 85.17% of the vote (Sun City cast 31% of the Williamson County vote in the 2010 Republican run-off in House District 20).
